Is There Something Wrong With This Red Phantom Tetra?

I recently picked up this red phantom tetra and he's got some weird black markings on his head and body. Not sure if it's meant to be there.better to check. Sorry for poor quality.

 

Mine have black markings on the sides and heads. I can't tell but I think that's how yours looks? It should be ok.

 

OK. Good. Will be getting him another 3 or 4 soon even though he school's with the black phantoms.

 

A little clearer shot of the area in question would be more helpful to the illness pros here ( I’m not one ). But from the pic it appears that fish looks more like a serpae tetra.

 

Certainly looks like a serpae to me too, in which case the black on the fins is normal.

 

That's annoying. I was told it was a red phantom. Serpae are aggressive.. right I don't think I'll pick any more of these up if that's the case. He's in with guppies but hasn't done anything yet.

Their not always as bad as people make them out to be. I've had the same 5 in my 55 for over 2 years and they have never bothered anyone except each other Without damage just friendly chases.

 

OK. Wasn't planning on serpae. Was planning on cherry barbs. Well see how it goes. Might give him away to a good home.
