Is There Any Difference?

I have been looking for a powerhead to assist with dead zones and just increase the flow, which brings me to my question.

Is there any difference between powerheads made for freshwater and the powerheads made for marine besides the gph?

I know with some marine powerheads you can put them on wave cycles but can they also just be set to put out a certain gph all the time?

My lfs doesn't really carry any powerheads made for freshwater with the amount of gph I want (their max is 200) but they also carry ecotech marine powerheads, and was wondering if they would work well in a freshwater environment as well.

They'd work better, I'd assume

That's what I was thinking considering marine tanks require over 4× the amount of flow, but upon looking at ecotech's website (and the powerhead I was thinking of buying)
link here: VorTech MP10 - EcoTech Marine

It says that it has different modes, and I was wondering if it was possible to have it run at a continuous rate instead of fluctuating.

Fundamentally, no. But marine powerheads do tend to be higher quality and more options like fluctuating output etc. Any powerhead marketed for marine tanks will do awesome in a freshwater tank.

That vortech one is probably overkill from the sounds of it for what you want, it's what $230ish? Look at the Jebao RW-8 instead maybe? It's not the same 2 part construction with the motor unit outside the tank and the impeller inside, but it's about 1/3rd the price, and you'll be able to aI'm it a bit better.

Here's my comparison video, in my 4'X2'X2' tank of a seio M820(820 gph) compared to my new RW-8 at 2100 GPH rated.

Both are in the lower left corner pointing up and right.

I think I need to get another one, actually.

Thank you very much, I will have to look into the jebao powerheads.
