Is Tetra AquaSafe ok to use with Purigen?

I currently use no type of chemical filtration. I've been reading up on all of Seachem products and it seems that they create some magic doing media that everyone loves so I decided to give a few of their products a try.

During my research I see that you should not use amine based water treatment products to use during the regeneration of Purigen. I currently use Tetra Aquasafe and so far cannot find if it is amine based or not. So instead of having to just throw it out I was wondering if I can continue to use Aquasafe for my tank but I'd buy Prime to just for the regeneration process. Once my big bottle of Aquasafe is over, I'd use Prime exclusively.

So to sum up, if Aquasafe is amine free I would not have an issue. Does anyone have a definite answer whether it is amine based or not? If it is amine based, could I continue using it in my tank water and just not use it for the regeneration process?

HI there!

I understand why you would want to finish up using the Aquasafe, but I would recommend you to switch to Prime for long term use in your tank. Seachem makes outstanding products and Prime is just one of them.

Contrary to popular belief, Prime is actually a lot cheaper than Aquasafe because it's so much more concentrated. One capful of Prime treats 50 gallons of water, whereas one capful of Aquasafe only treats 10 gallons of water. Prime also detoxifies ammonia, nitrite, and nitrate which is very helpful in the event your tank happens to have a blip in the cycle. All just food for thought

Unfortunately I can't answer your question about whether or not Aquasafe is amine based. Hopefully someone else will be able to help with that!

HI James. I did the calculation and saw that prime was cheaper. I did mention that I would use prime exclusively from now on in my post but just trying to use what I have of aqua safe so that it's not money down the drain.

Sorry fishlover. I guess I misunderstood your last sentence. I took it to mean that you would continue using Aquasafe for water changes but would use Prime when recharging your Purigen.

Have a nice day...

Thanks. I guess I would be safe. I also just realized that I am setting up a 20 gallon tank which will not get purigen since it will be planted. I can just continue using my Aqua safe in that tank until its done
