Is my Chinese algae eater going to destroy the tank’s silicone?

I’ve seen recently that my little golden fella loves to eat algae from the corners of my tank; but I have seen also that the silicone in the tank has been gradually destroying itself. Is the algae eater doing this? Is this going to be dangerous?

It's possible, but not likely. How old is the tank? Silicone will start to wear after about 8-10 years and the tank will need to be resealed.

It could be him then. Do you have any algae wafers you could give him to supress his appetite so maybe he will be less interested in algae?

 

I'd think there would be enough silicone between the glass where he can't get to it to keep the tank from leaking.

I don’t have them, but I’ll get them today Also... are my Corydoras going to accept those wafers? I know they’re omnivores but I have had a hard time with flakes since my tetras don’t let much food sink to the bottom of the tank.

Corys will eat algae wafers, but they're omnivores and need meat-based food also. Many companies that make fish food have wafers or pellets specially designed for bottom-feeding catfish.
