Is my betta overweight or just right?

Hey!
So my betta didn't eat for two weeks because he just refused food. Because of that, when he decided to eat again, I started feeding him three pellets twice a day to make up for the food he wasn't eating. I've noticed that's he's not super skinny like he was and has a little belly. He's not exactly thickening outward, he's just getting a little belly on his underside. Was he underweight for not eating and is now the proper size or is he overweight? I don't want to make him overweight, but it's so cute whenever he gets excited for food lol id show a pic of him right now, but he won't stay still

He might just be bloated, maybe try skipping a feeding or two and see if his appearance changes? If it does then it's likely bloat I'd say.

Yup! Looks like bloat. My betta had that when he ate an algae wafer meant for my snail lol.

Thank you so much! I'll skip feeding tomorrow and Sunday and see what he looks like then

Oh! Looks like he truly is starting to get a bit of a belly! I agree with DrogJustDrog. It could be bloat so I suggest feeding him only once a day. You could also mix up his diet a bit since it could also be constipation. Watch and see if his poo is average or stringy. Stringy poo and a bloated belly are the two main signs of constipation in betta fish.
Good luck!
The pea thing helps with constipation. A constant pellet diet is the main cause of constipation.

Yeah I'll definitely do that! I'd hate for him to have any major complications so I'll skip out on feeding for s few days and see if that does the trick

This here is a healthy weight. I also wouldn't skip a day or two of feeding Kevin until you know what's wrong. We don't want him to go hungry now. You could instead try letting the pellets soak (if you don't already) and feed him once a day rather than twice.

So I've read online that epsom salt can help a bloated/constipated betta return to normal size and go to the bathroom. Is this ok to do or should I avoid doing this?

Beautiful fish, and yeah that's true! I'll feed him two or three pellets in he morning and just not feed him again until the next day. I do soak the pellets since last time I didn't, he ended up not being able to chew them

Depends on the epsom salt- if it's scented/has added essential oils don't use it. But yes- as far as I am aware, you can use epsom salt.

I personally use API aquarium salt, mainly because the only epsom salts that are available to me have added things that aren't aquarium safe.

That is, if he is constipated (referring to my personal experience, betta wasn't, he passed the algae wafer within 24 hours). Rest assured- I don't think a little extra salt will do anything if he isn't sick.

I have some on hand that doesn't have anything added to it. I'll have to leave home tomorrow before it's light outside and I won't be back until late at night, so I might not be able to feed him. It kind of works out, though since I'd like to see if not feeding him for a day will help with the bloat.

Here's a pic of him today. Does the bloating look like it's gone down some?
