hello I have 2 male Betta Fish each of them have their own 10 gallon tank and I noticed one of my Betta’s tail Looks a little rough. He is a veil tail Betta. I just started using filters 2 days ago because the Betta’s seemed stressed from the current but I found the baffle idea so I did that. He lies on the bottom sometimes and his fins like I said look rough. Could it be fin rot? If it is what’s the best way to treat it? Or is there something else wrong with him? He also has 2 mystery snails with him in his 10 gallon tank. Here is some pictures

I would say yes to fin rot, either than or he got caught on the filter intake. There's a chance he got snagged on the plastic plants too.

How often and how much water have you been changing? Is the tank cycled and can you post results for nitrate, nitrite and ammonia? Regardless of the test results, I'd start doing 2-3 50% water changes a week to promote healthy fin growth.

Generally you want either live plants or silk plants rather than plastic. It would be very easy for the fins to get snagged on the rough plastic and tear.

Props to you for giving your boys their own 10gals, usually I see bettas in tanks under 5gals. Bigger is betta

Okay thank you! I currently don’t have any water testers so I don’t know the levels. I usually go to my local pet store every month and they check the levels. I do a 20% water change every week but I will start doing 2 or 3 50% water changes per week. I have looked at the silk plants but for some reason there VERY expensive do you know where I can find some cheap ones?

You know those cheap fake flowers people often buy as gifts or yard decorations? I would bet you can use some of those so long as they are not scented or have the glittery all over them.

You can also order online as it is often cheaper. I think plants aimed for reptiles are also a good idea so long as they are silk.

If you are in the US, I got a deal at PetSmart for silk plants. Each one was under 5 dollars if you do in-store pickup.
