Is My Betta Ok?!

When I was feeding my betta this morning, he didn’t seem overall too interested in his food. I think he actually spat it out. He had quite a bit of brine shrimp last night, not sure if that has anything to do with it.

But when I checked on him again this morning. I noticed that he pushed two bubbles out of his gills.

Is this something to be worried about?!

I notice he likes to get his air at the surface, figured that this is pretty common. But now I am worried. He doesn’t seem to gasp at the surface just takes a breath, and goes back under.

He is alone in a ten gallon heated and filtered tank. Since I have gotten him 2 snails have died in his tank. Could this be a factor?

Last time I checked the readings were ammonia- 0ppm, nitrite- 0ppm, nitrate 5ppm.
This might’ve changed since I last checked (about a week ago).

I just want to know if the bubbles from the gills are normal...
Please help! Thank you

Bubbles from gills are normal occasionally. He probably just isn't hungry this am, and has a brine shrimp hangover lol!
How often are you doing water changes?
Adult bettas have to get part of their oxygen by breathing air through a specialized labyrinth organ so they spend a lot of time at the surface. Male bettas also builds bubble nests on the surface so wil take 'bites' of air and deposit those bubbles in a quiet, still corner or under a surface leaf. Got recent pictures of your guy?

I've had a betta for a year now and he regularly pops a few bubbles out when he's eating or while breathing at the surface. Probably worth checking parameters again to be sure, but it sounds normal to me

I have had him for a week now. I did a water change the day before getting him, and one yesterday as well. Planning on doing weekly changes.

This was from the day I got him-
