Is My Betta Ill?

My Betta has what I assumed was overfeeding, as it was a lump just under his head where the first thin fins show up, (can’t grab a straight pic,) and I was convinced I was just overfeeding him since I’ve seen this on him before. But now I haven’t fed in 36 hours and he still has this. It’s just as visible to me.

Would this still be overfeeding or something else? What else could cause this and should I be worried. I’m fairly new to the world of bettas. It’s a **** photo, sorry.

He seems completely active and alive, rarely listless, and definitely shows aggression at his own reflection. I also assume he is creating a bubble nest, (no females around tho) so I’m assuming he’s happy. I’m just not sure if I should be concerned....

Hi, it appears that your betta is constipated and that’s why his belly is so big. To remedy this (and this has been a tried and true method) take a pea and boil it, removing the outer skin and making sure that it is cooled down before giving it to him. The fiber in the pea will get his stomach moving and act as a laxative. Also be sure the water temperature is 75-80° as cold water will make them sluggish and more difficult for them to digest food.

No problem. Also I’ve heard of people dipping bettas in plain epsom salt as a treatment, but I don’t have much knowledge on how that works. Just continue to fast him, make sure his water is warm enough for a betta, be sure to give him a boiled pea (outer skin off and cooled), and in the future only feed him 2 pellets a day or 4 every other day.

Yeah no thanks. I’ve had bettas before but as I’m just starting a planted tank I’d really hate to lose my beautiful crowntail. Thank you so so much for the advice. His water is at 26 since entering the new tank

That’s about 78 Fahrenheit. Yeah I can’t stand fake plants, I’m currently having issues deciding what else to add... the tank is black sand based and all natural. I have some photos on my profile
