Is it safe to use warm tap water (treated of course) in tanks?
My Betta tank is 26c and even leaving my cold tap water overnight it only gets to about 20c. It's a new set up so the PWC are bigger than normal, it's going to plummet the tank temp.

HI Oldbean!
I use warm tap water in my tanks when I do water changes, I test it with my finger for constancy with the tank water. I use to boil the kettle and mix that with cold water but with such large tanks that takes forever. My tanks still have cycled with this warm water being used so I see no harm in it myself. As long as its not to warm, if there is steam coming off of it its to hot to use. Someone might correct me but my fish are all still alive and well after doing this for weeks now
oh and of course I treat it with prime before adding it to the tanks!

You want it as close to the temperature of the tank as possible. Otherwise it can cause shock and death

I use a cooking thermometer, the kind with a oven probe connected to the thermometer with a long cord to get the right temperature on my tap.
Ever since CindiL helped me get my tank's pH closer to my tap pH, I have been able to do larger water changes. However temperature becomes important when you are changing more than about 20%.
Thermometer idea from the guy at MassAquariums on YouTube.

I just use my finger to check and see if they are close to the same temp. It's important that it's within a degree or two.
