Is it Safe to Use Plants From Local Pond in my Tank?

AquaticQueen

Hey Fishlore,
I was wondering if it would be safe to use some plants from my local pond in my tank. If so, should I do a bleach dip to make sure they are safe? The pond's known inhabitants are pond snails, frogs and tadpoles, and leeches.
Thanks!

I would probably QT them for a week or two just to obverse them and see if any unknown other things r living in them. And to be safe

Thanks. Could I just do the quarantine in a container?

I don’t see why not. I just made the suggestion so you could see them clearly. Maybe even a big glass jar but a container should absolutely work.

There is the risk of hitchikers (hydra, planaria, dragonfly nymphs, etc).

That being said I use a lot of wild-sourced plants in my tanks.
