well I just bought a 3'' round airstone and air only comes out of the front area near the tubing, the airstone is level in the gravel, although its good I want more coming out. what could I do?

Get a stronger air pump or if your air pump is strong enough, trying using a sewing needle and pock the air stone.

See, I just remove the air stone and put the end of the tube into some sponge material or a ornament and let the bubbles do as they wish. I always get crummy air stones.

did you let the airstone soak for a while first? I find that tends to help though I'm not sure why, but it is also recommended on some airstone packages.

Proabably helps break down some loose dust that may be clogging it? Not a bad idea.

I got a 12" airstone and the bubbles definitely don't come out like a nice even wall...but I'm not sure there's anything to be done. The bubbles will take the path of least resistance, meaning more will come out closer to the airline tubing, and fewer will make it all the way to the end of the stick. It may end up being the same for you, but as mentioned, I would first try a stronger air pump.

I did soak it in water for 20 hours so that doesn't help, ill try the sewing needle trick. can I just poke it in the airstone when its still in the tank.
and my airpump is rated for 30 gallons. which I have

I have always found the bubble wands work for me. I also have two 100 gallon air pumps with each output hooked up to a gang valve. Really a stronger pump will give better results. There is no such thing as over aeration
