Is it normal for platy fish to rest periodically throughout the day?

Is it normal for platy fish to rest periodically throughout the day?

 

What do you mean by "rest?" I have five and I never see them sitting on the bottom of the tank, if that's what you mean. Currently they are swimming around the top half of the tank.

 

Mine does, particularly when I've been messing around with the tank for a water change. She'll be still the bottom or in a plant.

 

I wasn't able to get a heater until today so maybe that is why. The temp was like 74. The first few days she would swim around then the past day or so she would rest either at the bottom or on top of one of the pillars I have in each corner of the tank for a minute or two then continue swimming. She seems alittle more active with the heater...so idk

 

I'd go with it being the water temperature. When I had a betta without a heater, he just floated around, but once I got a heater, he was much more active. My fish are all in 80-86 degree water, and they all seem happy. I'm sure she'll perk up once the water gets up to temp - be sure to do it gradually.

 

How long was she without a heater? She could have some kind of illness....you will just have to watch. It could have just been the lack of heat though
