Is it normal for bettas to play in bubbles?

Hi guys! I’m new here and not sure if this site is still in use, but I had a quick question.
I’m fairly knowledgeable in aquariums, and I have inherited a beta fish from my friend. She is my first beta since I was a kid. She’s in a 5 gallon tank that was fully cycled before put in, with a sponge filter, heater, hides, fake plants, etc. I’ve had her for about 2 months now. Never seen the following behavior until yesterday—
Anyways, to my question, is it normal for betas to play in bubbles? My fish used to swim all around the tank until yesterday. She seemed to have discovered the bubbles from the airstone in the sponge filter, and now all she does is swim into the bubbles, flip around, take a minute break, then do it again! Lol! She also seems to chase the bubbles that form on the top of the water.
I was nervous that something was wrong as it’s not behavior I’ve seen before so I did a small water change and tested perimeters. Everything is fine and normal.
Is she just a strange playful fish? Is this normal?
One thing I have noticed that I forgot to mention is that her mouth seems to be stuck open. I noticed it for the first time yesterday when I noticed the weird bubble activity. I just realized it could be correlated? Is something wrong?

Thank you guys!! I added a picture of how her mouth has been open since yesterday too. Do you think her mouth being open has anything to do with it? Hoping she’s just doing some silly tricks

I'm not certain, but it could just be breathing... I believe bettas have the ability to breathe through their mouths (labyrinth organs). They can breathe air from the surface too. Kinda looks like a cute yawn. :D

Not trying to change the subject but technically I think SHE is a HE. But I guess it doesn’t really matter when it comes down to it lol

Welcome to fishlore! I don't think your betta is having any problems, she's likely just playful or curious. Also on a technical term, your betta is a male, not that it matters if you're not breeding her, but she is a male

Totally normal. You'll find that bettas are quite curious and love interacting with their environment.

Welcome to Fishlore! :)

Some bettas are very active and its totally normal for any fish to play in the bubbles. Just keep an eye out on the mouth thing and see if it stays like that.
