Is it better?

Bettatakeover

Is it better for a HOB filter to be almost at the bottom of the tank? My aquaclear 70 only reaches about midway. I'm debating adding a sponge filter or ordering an extension (about the same price). Im just worried about the noise of an air pump

I think it would work better with the uptake tube is as close to the bottom as it can be. If you have a sand substrate you want to keep it 3 or 4 inches above it to prevent sand being pulled into he impeller. Sand will destroy it. If you have gravel it can be much closer to the bottom.

AC filters come with an extra intake tube just for this purpose. My tank is a shallow tank so I only use one intake tube.
Anyway if you don't have the spare that came with your filter you can buy it.

I do have sand. But I also have a pre-filter intake sponge over it. I'll order another intake piece (if I ever had one it is long gone). Thank you for your replies
