Is Having Two Types Of Substrate Pointless?

So in my tank I have red flourite on the bottom and gravel rocks on top. I wanted my plants to have a good source of nutrients but I like how gravel rocks look. However when I plant plants, I don't bury deep enough to go into the flourite because I don't want to cover the rhizome. Is the red flourite pointless or is it still beneficial?

The red flourite is no pointless it contains clay that's is good for plants but is mineral not nutrition ,you have to add combination of root tabs and fertilizer to keep it up with nutrition i use same combination on one of my tank red flourite and on top ECO Complete Plus ..
