Is Euthanasia Best At This Stage?

My betta has been ill for weeks now. At first we thought he was bored/lethargic so we tried to treat him for that by moving his tank decor around and giving him Indian Almond Leaves but there was no improvement and I saw he had a brown underbelly where he is normally black. A few days ago I QT him so I could treat him for Velvet but today he is looking really bad. His fins are very thin, almost see through, he hasn't eaten for three days now and I've had to drop the water level in the QT to roughly 10cm high because otherwise he doesn't have the energy to reach the top to breathe.

Everything I'm reading is telling me he's past the point of no return but I'm caught in a limbo between not wanting him to suffer and not wanting to take away his chance that he could pull through.

Does anyone have any advice or even just kind words at the moment?

I think it'd be best to euthanize him.. I'm sorry, but as you stated "he's past the point of no return".

Either is a hard decision so you may want to wait for others to give their own opinions.

Id check the nh3, no2 and no3 levels in your quarantine tank firstly. If all is well, or not, do a 50% water change with temperature matched water using prime at the correct standard rate. In the water you add back, add 1 teaspoon of aquarium tonic salt(not marine sea salt) per 40L. And add this water gradually to the tank across 12-24 hours. Everytime you add water- until your fish gets better- maintain the ratio 1 teaspoon per 40L for every 40L removed.
While the tank is being filled up-across 24hours- dose the tank with metroplex (and kanaplex if pos) (if using both- at half their recommended dosage and add the other halfs the following day). Continue to follow the dosage recomendations. Metro can be used for up to 2 weeks. If the fish worsens the day after metro is added then it may be too late. It can take 2 weeks to a month to rid some parasites. Continuing treatment by replacing only the amount of med removed from water changes allows a long period of treatment. Usually continuing treatment after symptoms disapear is recommended.

Good luck, if not, betta next time
