I’ve got brown algae in my cycled 3.7 gal. Is this algae bad? How do I control it? Is it even necessary?

What is living in there? Brown algae isn't "bad" but it is annoying and usually can be corrected with increased aeration and water changes. Good luck!

I had it pretty bad in my 10 gallon shrimp tank, but I put some rams horn snails in it and they're doing a good job of cleaning it up.

Currently I have a single betta in there! I’d put in a snail but I’d be worried that he’d be aggressive with it

It's not directly bad but if it dies it can cloud the tank what I would do is get a aquarium safe sponge and wash it off the walls that is how I remove it and let the filter suck up any that falls into the tank.

I was also considering a snail, but my betta is pretty aggressive so I’m not sure how he’d take it

Most fish look at snails like rocks and don't mess with them but ramshorn snails should get the job done.

most of the times brown algae happens with too much light or wrong type of light, try decrease the light duration
u can also add some cryptocoryne tropica to your tank they are hardy plant that can live with normal substrate, once you had some plants in your tank feed them very little liquid carbon daily for proper growth and algae removal
