is betta food any different?

The topic is the main question here. Is there really a difference in the betta pellets vs other types of fish foods out there? If so, what is it? Also what's the big difference between freeze-dried and frozen foods, such as blood worms? besides the obvious physical difference.

I plan on feeding mine a variety to see what it likes...if anything. I was thinking live & frozen (w/spirulina) brine shrimp, frozen mysis shrimp, frozen and freeze-dried bloodworms, shrimp pellets, and if all else fails, some flakes. And on occasion some mosquito larvae from my container outside.
If I put something bigger in there that's soft, will he rip it into pieces or swallow it whole?

I don't think so.

Personally, I prefer pellets when it comes to feeding my betta (As well as many live foods). Pellets are actually not that messy and most of the betta I kept will accept them.

The diet that you plan on giving your betta is a great diet. Most of the live "treats" that you have are actually not even treats at all, but more of their natural part of a bettas diet. Most of the foods that they eat in the wild include: Bloodworms, Small insects on top water, Mosquito Larvae, Live Brine, Baby Mysis Shrimp, Daphnia, and Glass Worms.

It depends on what your putting in there. What is it exactly that you have in mind?

I can't say about how the betta pellets are different, but I can tell you what I fed my betta. I fed him Spectrum Thera +A as a staple, with frozen twice a week (he loved bloodworms and brine shrimp mostly), and freeze-dried cyclops once a week. He was hesitant about the freeze-dried at first, but he learned it was good pretty quick. He wasn't too big on flakes, though.

Really, what he'll eat just depends on what he's used to, as with most fish.

Betta pellets have more Beta carotene than regular fish food. That's the only difference I know of. A staple diet on NLS Thera+A is just as good if not better than any Betta food.

lol, 'beta' carotene for bettas. i'm assuming their food has something to enhance colors and fins? I was just thinking of using kordon fish protector once in awhile.

where would you buy this Thera+A stuff and what is it? It's food that's supposed to boost immunity right?

You can find NLS Thera+A at petco, or online. And, yes, it helps boost immunities and healing because it has a lot of garlic in it, in addition to just being a hearty food for fish. It helps to boost the natural coloration of the fish by just keeping them healthy
