Is a "long" tank better for a ropefish?

I'm about to get a new tank for my 8 inch ropefish. He has definitely outgrown his 10 gallon tank. Anyway, would a "long" tank be better than a regular for him? Say a 20 long vs a 20 regular, or similar.

Long would be better. 55 gallons is a great size.

Definitely something upwards of 55gals, a 10gal is not enough for a ropefish at all. Though, a 75 is as long as a 55, they are wider and it wouldn't be put to waste with the fish either.
