Internal Filter For Divided 10g(bettas)?

Hey guys!

So, I was using sponge filters with my 10 gallon divided tank, but now that I have two divided tanks my air pump isn’t strong enough to handle 4 filters. Plus, they’re not strong enough to really get the water moving. The water is too cold for my bettas and I just noticed that their fins are tearing. I need to find two good internal filters asap. Any suggestions? I had the Tetra Whisper 10I but the current was so strong my betta was doing flips. My heaters work great, just no way to get the heat all around!

There's a couple of things that you could do. The first one is come up with a way to baffle the output flow on the Tetra filter. I'm not familiar with the filter and where the output sits in relation to the surface of the water. When I had 10 gallon tanks a filter like that wasn't even on the drawing boards or any HOB filters. The second one is either acquire another air pump to power the other 2 sponge filters in the other tank. As far as the heat distribution goes a divided tank creates a physical barrier, which will limit water circulation between the 2 sides of the tank especially if it's a solid type barrier like plexiglass. Even with holes drilled in the barrier there's will be limited circulation of water between the 2 sides of the tanks. Possibly placing a heater on either side of the tank will solve having a heat distribution problem on both sides of the tank. I know all these involve money along the way, then again all hobbies cost money. Believe it or not Aquariums is actually one of the cheaper hobbies I enjoy.

I vote 2nd air pump or one larger air pump. The other thing is you gotta figure out what is tearing the Bettas fins, and correct it. Is it plastic plants, Mabee even the divider?

I have the 20i, did the mod in the video below. works really well.

I find that if the water level and the lip of the filter are far apart there is more current (gravity 9.8m/s² or 32ft/s²). and if I fill up the tank so the water level is right under the lip there is less current.

Money isn’t an issue. I’ll go get a heater for each side today when I get a chance.

No plastic plants! I didn’t specify in my first post, but I only have real plants and I don’t think it’s the divider. Only my older bettas fins are tearing and they tend to stay near the tank wall side. I’m thinking the cold could be stressing them out and that’s why. I have nothing sharp in their tanks.

I have a 10I and a 20i. I’m going to watch that video and see if it works.

Ok. Yea older boys tend to get fin rot easy. Once you get the heating and filtration straightened out it should heal up nicely.

That's what I figured. I feel so bad because I didn't notice sooner, but now that I know I can fix it.
