Internal Filter For 500l Tank

HI friends, Iam having a 500
Litres tank with a internal filter which has a bio ball and three chambers of filter, is this good enough ? I have another 100 litres planted Aquarium in which I have a job filter which looks far better than the 500 litres tank, should I upgrade the filter on my 500 litres tank? If yes ? What filter should I choose ? I don’t have a big budget for a canister filter

I would have thought an external filter would be most efficient choice for a 500l tank due to the sheer amount of water it has to process, What sort of budget do you have?

This tank size is worthy of a sump... and internal filter probably wouldn’t do the job unless you built it yourself and worked it out. If budget isn’t a problem I would reccomend a canister but if budget is a factor, grab an emperor filter or seachem tidal or aqua clear hob and change the filter media inside the way Cory from AquariumCoop shows on his video.

Sounds good and interesting,

If you don't mind having a used filter, you can probably find one on Craigslist (if in the US) or the equivalent for your country. There are normally local facebook groups that sell fish and aquarium equipment as well.

So far I found Aquaclear 110 power filter that suits 400 litre tank, mine is actually 412L So it’s better to have 2 of those for best result, but in my place it’s not available, Sunsun 702a canister is cheaper and suits upto 150 gallon or I will check for used filter as
Mazeus suggested in his comment below. What I also have as a option is this in the attachment, they support 260L tank I think I can fix 2 of those. If Iam right ?

I looked up videos on this filter, he has a lid on his tank I don’t know how that would work? Plus if you watch the videos it looks flimsy like it would break and fall in the tank? I am curious what everyone thinks. ozaiz I still think 2 aquaclear 110 is your best bet with your budget since you found them on sale

owaiz, if you don't mind me asking, what part of the globe are you at?

that SOBO WP-508H hang-on-back filter you first posted looks decent. How much are those selling for in USD where you are at?

It appears to be a copy of the Marina SlI'm S20 . Here is a
to the smaller S10 where someone posts a video of filling the S10 with different types of media and this link to a review of the S20.

If so, it flows around 90-100gph (350 liters/hr).

If it is cheap, available and will fit the rI'm of your tank, buy two of them.

With those slots, stuff them with sponges and bags of ceramic bio-rings or pumice stones.

You mentioned the Sun Sun canister. Are those available where you are at? If so, are they in your $50 budget? Trying to upgrade to a Sun Sun canister would be optimal if you can get on in your price range.

Also, have you considered getting one or two large in-tank sponge filters? They can be run off an air pump or a power head.

Owaiz,

Yeah, the s&h would break the deal on the aquaclear 110.

One solution could be to get 2 large sponge filters ran off an air pump, while saving $$ for awhile to go toward the Sun Sun canister.

Large sponge filters offer great mechanical and bio filtration. If Sun Sun power heads can be found for cheap, using those to run the sponges would be an alternative also.
