Interesting Stuff On New Plant

I just noticed these white hairs with dots on the ends growing on a plant I got at my lfs a couple days ago. it's also growing on a piece of cuttlebone next to the plant. the plant is water sprite; this part of the bunch was just a mass of rhizome, roots, a damaged stem with no leaves on it, and a new baby plant, so I decided to cut off the stem and throw this part into my tank and let it grow.

does anyone know if this a type of hair algae, fungus, mold, something else?? I removed the plant and the cuttlebone to be safe. it's not growing on my mature water sprite or anything else around it that I can tell.

thanks!

Looks like fungus with spore heads. That’s my best guess.

Take what I said with a grain of salt. I’m just basing my opinion from what little I still recall of my biology courses in college. I might be entirely wrong.

yeah I know, and I agree that it could very well be a fungus. I tossed the plant (the bud fell off while I was rinsing it so I was like w/e) and cuttlebone and will probably vacuum that corner later.

Aw, that sucks. But yeah, it was probably bad anyway.
