Interactive Betta?

I've seen pictures and videos are people putting their fingers in their betta tank and the betta swimming up and saying hI or the person can "pet" the betta. How?! My betta gets scared when I try to interact with him

Takes time to do. Go slowly at first just get him to chase your finger across glass. Then touch you finger inside tank. Bribing with a little food helps too. Lol

All three bettas come running when they see my finger because that's how I feed them their soaked pellets. They got used to the finger that way

Try getting your finger wet, and putting some food onto it. The food sticking to your finger may lure your betta to come over and see you.

I have my daughter's betta trained to eat from fingers and straws. to train the betta to eat from a straw you soak some pellets in tank water. Once done put the straw into the cup, and pick up some food and water, and put your finger over the other end to make a seal, and hold in the water and air. dip it into the tank and slowly move it around until the betta notices it and comes to investigate, then remove your finger and release the food. The betta will learn to look forward to the straw. A small medicine dropper would work well too, and has softer edges

another thing that I have done witht he betta is to make a little hoop from airline. At feeding time I drop in the hoop, and put the food in the circle. The betta knows that food always comes to the circle, and they don't have to chase it around the tank whent he filter flow catches it

If I hand feed him instead of just dropping the food would that help?

Definatly. Move real slow so you don't scare him. He will get used to you after awhile. He might not eat from your finger the first time or two but he will come around.

I was just doing some tank maintenance in the sorority, and one of the little brats tried to bite the mole off my arm. It actually hurt for a while...

They'll interact with you whether you want it or not. Bettas are so curious they will "follow" you around the room as best they can, trying to impress you by flaring. I used to have a couple males in a divided 10 that would leap up and stick themselves to the side of the glass above the water to get my attention and convince me to feed them.

Bettas are little clowns, basically. They get bored and invent games for themselves. You're there so they interact with you.

I've seen people get theirs to jump over a chopstick...
