Hey all,

ive got a 90g tank with rounded sides. I want to do a black background somehow but my tank is full and near the wall.

Would anyone know what I can do or how I can do it? I’ve got two Oscar’s and I think black is best, but I’m stuck cos it’s already established and full of water.

Please help if anyone knows how I can do this? I’m willing to try anything if it’s possible.

I can’t see myself being able to get the glossy paper that stick and you get the air bubbles out. Think that’s ruled out? And same goes with painting it. Also, should I be doing the sides of the tank as well even though the front corners are rounded/curved. I wanna do what’s best for my fish so they’re happy and stop doing changes cos that’s what my eyes wanna see.
What’s going to be my best and easiest option here?

We use polystyrene (styrofoam) painted a dark olive green colour placed at the back of the tank, could you slot a piece down the back? You can just secure it with tape if you can’t manage to use silicon. It helps with insulation as well.

If you do this you have to use latex or acrylic paint. Other types will melt the polystyrene.

You could get a piece of black poster board and slide it back there as well. If you cut it correctly you can wedge it between the top and bottom bracing.

You could use a black curtain. You could hang it off the wall, or the back of the tank. You wouldn't get a perfectly smooth black surface like you would with paint or the stick on stuff. But it would be better than seeing the wall.

But honestly, if it were me, I'd probably bite the bullet and do it the hard way. Put the fish in some temporary tubs, drain the tank, do the background, and then put it all back together. It would be a pain, but I'm pretty certain that's the only way I'd be happy with it long-term.

I wouldn't do the sides.

i agree with ppate1977 thats what i did, black cardbord, poster paper, paper, normal paper spray painted the colour you want, anything thin will work, ive had black paper backgrounds for 3 yrs and they are like new, no water damage, i just sticky taped the black poster paper/board to the back of tank. and the good thing is if you dont want background or want to change it you peel the tape, if you use black paint on the glass, it can be very hard to remove and often ends with scratch marks.
Good luck!
