Injured year old Goldfish

Hello fish keepers. I have a question about one of my good fish. He's just over a year old, and I noticed today his side looks almost sliced open, a bit fleshy. Some flapping scales. Eating well, swimming fine, acting normal. I would like to know if you can help me figure out what might have happened and or treatment for this big guy. The photos are not the best. He's not very photogenic. If you need better pictures, I will attempt to get more.

Ouch.
You'll have to thoroughly check your tank for anything pointy, sharp or any place that he could possibly get stuck, cause that looks like a plain old flesh wound type injury to me. I highly doubt another goldie or the loaches could do this, it does look like a cut and you may want to treat it with salt or something to prevent infection or fungus taking hold in the wound. Luckily it doesn't appear too deep so he should recover with good care.
