Injured tetra - how long can we safely leave her in an unaerated bowl?

MomJustice

I'm new to this forum and hoping you all can help. We have an injured neon tetra. The fish swam into a gap in a plastic tank decoration and became stuck. We were able to nudge her out but she's been lying on the bottom of the tank since, with only short bouts of swimming. After doing some reading, we have separated her, but our secondary "tank" is really only a bowl we use when doing a major tank cleaning.

It seems as if we should leave her in the separate tank on her own until she's better (or she dies). The question is, without a filter or an aerator, how long will she survive? Will changing the water regularly aerate the water enough? How often should we change the water?

We've had the fish for about 3 years.

I'd leave it in the main tank or if it is too far gone euthanise.
