Injured Black Neon Tetra

One of my black neon tetras may have injured herself although I am not sure how. I do not have any larger aggressive fish. I noticed a red spot on one side a couple of days ago and the fish was swimming in a vertical position. The fish is still alive but hanging in the plants for stability. The spot does look a bit better today but from what I can tell the fish is still having some trouble swimming. I am not sure what I can do to help. I have been doing more frequent water change to reduce possibility of infection. Has anyone run into this situation before? Thanks.

I have not seen other fish bother this particular fish. The fish is eating a little but not as much as normal.

Alright. Water parameters are normal. Did you recently put him in the tank?
Is he getting bullied?

 

I put her in the tank approximately 8-9 months ago. I have not seen any signs of bullying. My fish are small between 1-2" in size and include rasboras, tetras, corydoras, otocinclus, and amano shrimp. This particular tetra is one of my largest fish.

I wonder if she scraped herself on something although I do not know what that could have been. I have a large tree trunk ornament on the left side of the tank. Before putting that in, I sanded down the sharper edges. Will fish wounds eventually heal?

 

I would like to provide an update. My tetra is still alive and seems to be doing better. I see her swimming with the other fish near the spray bars from the filters. She has been eating as well. Her ability to swim is not completely back to normal but does appear to have improved.
