Well....I went to Petco today.
I went to look at the tanks, every fish was dead. There was a woman just netting them all out & putting them in the holder they use to catch fish. She told me, "Oh, this is normal when we get a shipment!" WHAT?!?
Plus side : they have HM & DT bettas. Def. going to buy one there.

Petsmart (Middletown, NY) : My next stop was Petsmart, one a little further from home, and not the one I usually go to. There were only 2 dead fish here, and the girl was very nice. I didn't get anything, but they have a lot different fish than my other Petsmart does.

Wal-Mart: a different one than I usually go to, again. They only had 4 tanks with fish in them. All the rest were empty. They had 2 tanks with just a betta, one with tetras & a betta, and the last was 5 GSP and a betta. All teh GSP but one was dead.

Overall, I'm pretty aggervated today. My swordtail died this morning from ich, so I only have one platy left. And he's just barely in there.

I've never shopped at a Petco. I've heard too many bad things about them.

I'm sorry for your trouble and loss.

I have 7 stores that sell fish within an hour drive that I've checked out. That includes the chain stores.
Only 3 are LFS that are privately owned. There are more near me that I have to check out eventually.

I hate hearing about bad petstores. It makes it worse when it's a chain store...

I'm so sorry your swordtail died! That's never fun. :console:

I read a post recently that a fishlore member said she confronted the store manager about the way they treated their fish and they actually changed their policy. Myabe need to put PETA onto this issue?

Yeah, and she was so calm about it all.
"Oh, this is normal". Even my mom, who hates fish, was like "THIS IS NOT NORMAL!"
(she is a softie....I know it!!)

He was. But, I'm leery to even consider platies & swords now. Idk, it's like imprinted in my brain that they'll get sick.

I had one, that was the first one to die.
I know, they're super cute.
