Info on sponge filter?

I'm thinking about replacing the filter that came with my tank. It's way, way to strong for the guppies I'm planning on getting. I haven't started cycling the tank yet, so I thought I'd better replace it now if I'm ever going to. I already had a air pump and air stone. I really just need to know: How often does it need replaced? Is this a good option for a 10 gallon tank? Is it difficult to put together? Is the flow really strong? Is there anything else I'd need besides the pump, air stone, and sponge?

Thanks for the help!

You don't replace sponge filters. You just rinse in tank water.
Choose one suited for a 10-20 gallon
Not difficult to put together. Extremely easy
No flow. But bubbles on surface make top ripple

I've never had to replace mine. Yes, it's a good option for your tank. If you buy a premade one it's not hard to put together at all. Flow depends on how big it is, how strong your pump is, and how tall the riser tube is. You can get a sponge filter to have a really low flow. I would recommend getting a check valve and something for air flow control. I use this one from petco. It's nice because it combines the check valve with a gang valve, so your pump is protected from back siphoning, you can control the air flow, and if you want to you can add more outlets.

I never replace mine. Low flow because its just bubbles really! You can diffuse it if you need to tho. Like I know some people with bettas do sometimes

Sponge filters are so super easy, cheap, and effective. I have them in all of my tanks. I just put together a 29 Gallon tank a couple of months ago and ended up buying a sponge set up from Amazon, Here's a link to the one that I bought.

The good news is that you've got the expensive part (air pump). If you spend a few bucks more to get the sponge set up, you're good to go for under $10.
