Info on Black Ghost Knife fish

My bf & I just got a Black Ghost Knife fish (more so him)
We are trying to get as much info as we can on them so we can be sure to place it with the right tank mates.
So far we have read/heard they are rather delicate but can be aggressive toward smaller fish, However, we also heard one as small as 3 inches can kill a smaller Cichlid. What we know for sure is that it has killed our Cherry Barb.

We were wondering what experiences anyone else has had & if you have any advice on what we should watch for.

Thanks ^_^

Welcome to Fishlore, cassaroo!

From experience, these lil' guys can be aggressive. I didn't have many aggressive ones. Most of what I had were quite shy surprisingly. But I kept them in a group of 5. Didn't have any other fish with them. Well, that's from my experience. Wait for better opinions from other members with BGF experience. Good luck and keep us posted!

I had a black ghost knife and it was very shy. From my experience they are delicate. They are beautiful fish but I had a hard time getting mine to eat. Just make sure you tank is not overstocked! You might have to try different foods to get them to eat. I hope you have fun!

We actually did research on this fish this past weekend. They can reach lengths of 24 inches and will apparently eat any fish that will fit in their mouths. It ruled them out for us, but they are truly beautiful to watch!

Boy, if you think a 3 month old thread is old, I think I should go check for grey hairs. I'm feeling pretty feeble right now.

knife fish are not that aggresive but they will without a dought eat fish since they are carniveros. they also get quite big. I have kept them in the past but I don't have any freshwater tanks anymore, I switched to a huge reef and that takes all my time and money. they are a nice fish to keep but require prestine water, and a hiding place. enjoy him
