It is an infestation of harmless bacteria that break down organic matter, the same thing happens with driftwood, I believe snails eat it but you can scrub it off if it bothers you.

The nerite in there isn’t eating it, and I think mystery snails prefer biofilm so maybe I’ll transfer it to another tank. A few of my mystery snails ate Rocket’s entire IAL
