"inch Per Gallon" Rule/stocking Advice Sticky Wanted

I was wondering if we could have a sticky or something like that in the stocking area of the forum about the "Inch per gallon" rule. I've seen several threads from new members stocking their tank based on that outdated rule. I would have chimed in on why to not use that rule, but those threads were getting a bit too sticky and argumentative for my taste.

I really like the sticky that we have on stocking 10 gallon tanks; it's very easy to just post something saying "Here is this really helpful thread on what you can stock." and then you can leave without any other issues. If we had something to send people to that could explain why the "Inch per gallon" rule is incorrect and why we don't use based off of activity level, fish size....etc. that would be really helpful!

If we already have a sticky for that, could someone let me know where that little gem is hiding? Thanks!

Actually, there's a sticky about AqAdvisor. We really don't recommend using that stocking since it does have inconsistencies. Here's a sticky on it.

Also, there is a stocking sticky for 5 and 10 gallon tanks in the Aquarium Stocking forum.

Yes! I love those two stocking stickies! It's really nice to have a place to refer people to; I personally refer people to the Columnaris sticky that CindL created.

Yeah, I think the whole 1 inch per gallon rule has been debunked for quite awhile now.

Also, can be used as a VERY basic tool to evaluate your stocking, but should not be used to determine your final stocking. You should consult others for that.

1" per gallon rule is not correct.

I've kept much more than that in tanks with no problem. Actually I don't think I've ever stocked below the 1" per gallon rule.

So you would be good with stocking a ten inch fish in a ten gallon tank ... cause ... that would be acceptable according to your guidelines.

Anyone else think this would be good?
