In The Wake Of Ich!!

HI there! I have a 75 gal. freshwater tank in which two clown loaches contracted Ich. It was a stubborn case, 1 died in the 75 tank and the other I moved to a quarantine tank and lost it too. I treated with Rid-Ich. I have put the charcoal back in 75 gal. tank. The tank and fish look beautiful right now. Everyone is healthy and eating well. I have silver dollars (5) , platys 3 adults , platy frye (didn't plan on these little guys (12 that I can count!) , suckers-little ones max 2" (4), and neons (11). I am thinking I should add aquarium salt to treat the possibilty of lingering Ich.....at the rate of 1 rounded Tablespoon per 5 gal. slowly adding. Am I on tract here or leave the happy tank alone? Need some expert advice. No nitrates in water, no ammonia, ph is steady 7.4, and temp is 82.5.

If you don’t mind me asking what type of tests kit are you using? Getting 0 nitrates is a near impossibility in an established aquarium unless it’s heavily planted which I know it can’t be due to the silver dollars. And due to the dry and the neons who tend to be salt sensitive I would lower the concentration to 1 tablespoon per 10 gallons. The first day of adding it then 1 tablespoon per 20 gallons the following few days. This will raise the salinity slowly without being too stressful to the tetras and fry.

It's a freshwater mMaster Test Kit .....I shouldn't have said no nitrates...lol....it registers in the light blue o ppm on both NO2 and NO3.

Just wanted to make sure because every once in a while you have to shake the second nitrate test solution bottle to mix it up again in order to get an accurate result. If it ever shows zero nitrate or unbelievably low nitrate that should fix it.

Yea....I'm pretty careful about the testing solutions, but good to know! What do you think of the idea of just leaving tank alone.....and not putting salt in at all?

I would keep the tank at a higher temperature for a week but as long as no other outbreaks of ich occur I think you’re safe not treating with salt.
