I'm Very Disappointed, new cover & lights don’t fit

Ok guys, I've been slowly piecing together my 20 gallon planted tank. About a week back I received a few things I had ordered online and I'm just now getting around to putting them together. I bought a plant growth light and a glass cover for my 20 gallon that has a rim. Altogether on just these two things alone I spent about $80. And the conclusion is NEITHER ONE FITS!! I am very disappointed about this and I just needed to tell somebody that would fully understand my frustration/disappointment. That is all...

RIP... This is why people should buy adjustable light fixtures.

It is adjustable...ead:

The clamp is what won't fit over the rim.

My current situation is. The light OR the cover will fit over the rI'm very very carefully with SOME steadiness. But not BOTH!! If I try to fit both then I'm just basically letting the light "sit" atop the kinda steady glass cover. And I COULD trust it stay that way as long as you don't breath on it....oh and if I wasn't a mom to 6 kids all under 8.......

Oh dear... Are you able to return them?

What light do you have? Are you sure the clamp can’t be adjusted? I know some brands, specifically the Finnext Stingray, one of the brackets can be snapped on or off.

What? You must be wonderwoman! I can't believe you have time for a tank, you are amazing.

what did you get? I was just about to complain about something similar, lol. I have a 10 gallon aqueon tank and i'm looking for a matching aqueon versa top lid (20") but can't find one at any of the lps near me. on amazon the thing costs 10+ bucks more. i've ruled out using other brands instead because they won't be an exact fit.

i'm hoping the light I bought will work, too. fingers crossed. sorry about your situation!

The Amazon questions and answers can be very helpful. I always ask or look for similar questions before getting a light.

I think it's too late for my return policy. It's been a little over a week since I couldn't get to it right away.

I went cheaper and got a Nicrew. The clamp can't be adjusted it came with this plastic screw thing to twist in a hole to tighten the clamp to the side but my rI'm is too wide to let it go down far enough to tighten it. (If that makes sense lol!)

What? You must be wonderwoman! I can't believe you have time for a tank, you are amazing.
Thank you!! That's sweet of you! I try my best, this is probably why it took me so long to get my 1 20 gallon cycled. It just came cycled this month and I've had it going since February lol.

The cover I got was exactly this kind, but for my TopFin tank. I did A LOT of research it was the best I could find since TopFin doesn't make anything like what I needed to keep a planted tank.

I agree... and it was all too expensive for me not use it. I have to figure out something...

The equipment or the kids??
Maybe it's not too late for the kids... !! Lol JK of course!!

You could make a little stand out of wood for the light. If you made the stand large enough for your tank...

I'm curious as to how this could be accomplished...

ohh. that's why I won't go with the top fin lid for my aqueon, because the top fin doesn't fit it right. then again, I read that the top fin lid doesn't even fit the top fin tanks correctly! which is a little baffling tbh.

From my research TopFin doesn't make lids with lights that support plant growth.

oh, I thought you were talking about a glass lid and a separate led or fluorescent light?

Well, my TopFin came with a hood and light and my plants are growing very well.

Mine came with a plastic hood and LED as well. I didn't phrase my response correctly. I meant if the light was strong enough compared to your gallon/watt ratio I'm sure your plants could do well. But the light that came with the kit I purchased was extremely weak even for low tech plants. And when I looked into a replacement hood I couldn't find anything strong enough that would fit my size tank. Please excuse the confusion I may have caused.

Yes I was. Sorry for confusion. I had purchased a glass lid and separate LED plant growth light because the hood I had with my tank wasn't growing my plants very well and I couldn't find what I needed in another hood version from TopFin.

forgive me if i'm still misunderstanding; you might want to try this lid plus the nicrew light, if it comes in your tank's size. unless this is the top you bought, not an aqueon versa.

I looked into this, my LFS wasn't carrying it and there wasn't an option to have one sent to me so I did purchase an aqueon versa instead.

Well after numerous bumps and hours between cleaning sand, removing/moving around old substrate, planting, arranging, rearranging and rearranging again. It.Is.FINALLY Complete!
1:The very first result(I wasn't very happy with it). Taken minutes after I finished. It was still very cloudy.
2:The first result only a few hours later!
3:Snail Exploration
4:The second result(I like this one much better!!) Kinda cloudy again tho.
5:My extremely happy Cory Cats having a snack.
Edit to add: I think all I need now is a good background to hide all those cords. Lol.

I am the queen of buying things that never fit because I overlook a certain detail. So I'm like always returning things I buy. Lolol

I'm a little late to the show. Have you found a solution? By the looks of the product the opening of the clip for your aquarium rI'm is a 1/2" opening. How thick is the rI'm of your Aquarium?
