I’m moving my fish to a new tank

I have an old 20 gallon tall tank. Full of scratches and I just don’t trust it anymore. Taking all inhabitants out of it and moving to a new 20 gallon tall tank. I’ve put in the Hardscape , all I need to do is fill it up with water and add plants/fish. When I add water to the new tank I’m planning on seeding it by squeezing the sponges from the filter in the old tank into the new one. Also of course , dechlorinate it and prob add some fritz active bacteria. Will this be enough to put the fish right into the new tank/water? I’d rather not wait days/weeks before I can add the fish to the new tank. Just not a lot of space to have 2 tanks going at once

Any chance you can also move the filtration system over and all that?

If so that would just instant-cycle the new tank (most likely), and you can just do a straight tank transfer.

 

yeah the filter currently on the old tank is what I’m using on the new tank. Just trying to make sure there’s nothing I haven’t thought of. Have had most of my fish for 2+ years. Don’t want to lose anybody

 

Just move everything from the old over to the new including half the water. By doing so the new tank will be cycled and you will have done a 50% water change. There is little to no bacteria in the water but the parameters of it are what your fish are used to. By moving half of it over you won't have to acclimate your fish to 100% fresh water.

 

Youre WAY overthinking it.

Fill the new tank halfway with new water thats dechlorinated (like youre doing a water change). Move the old filter with media from the old tank to the new one. Then use 50% of the old tank water to fill the new tank and add the fish. Boom, done.

This is sort of it. Big ugly rock in there weighing down wood. Still have plants to add. Fish all doing well don’t have a pic of the old tank though
