I’m alive! Life & Hobby Updates

I’m so very sorry. I’ve just logged back on after some time. I’ve been through a very busy period in my life. I’ve finished university, started my first professional job and most excitingly, become an uncle to another niece!

I’ve gone through a tough part in my hobby. I bought a 5x2x2 150G earlier this year and it was one of the worst decisions I’ve made. I’ve had it flood, had it disconnect equipment and start leaking from the trim, no matter how much I drop the water level. I lost a new colony of Bulgarian Seal Point Angelfish 1-by-1 in about 3 weeks too.

This, coupled with the extremely high energy rates in the UK at the minute, I decided to sell my stock :( 50 Peacocks, Haps and Mbuna that I travelled wide and far to purchase and spent well over £1500 on. I’m still in the process of moving them on.

The good news? Now that I moved the fish out of the 150, I’m enjoying my hobby more. I’m hoping the next few months are also more enjoyable as I grow Mbuna fry out & plan my replacement aquarium.

Very sorry to hear about the loss of the angelfish ( I remember reading about them at the time you got them) and the issues with the 150 gallon tank. Hopefully things will go more smoothly now. And yes, increasing electricity prices are a concern for most of us now I think (not just in the UK).

Welcome back
Sorry to hear about your angels. Tough part of the hobby, losing them.

The alive part is great, sure beats the alternative!

Never any shame in downsizing, though can be frustrating. The goal is to stay in and enjoy the hobby, not burn ourselves out by it!

Thank you all for a friendly return :)

Yes, losing all the Angelfish was a tough one to swallow, especially as losses are usually quite rare for me.

I’m glad I haven’t totally withdrawn from the hobby, my 70G still has the remaining boys for sale.

Even though energy prices really are becoming a great concern, I’m hoping I can fully return to the hobby with a massive tank. I’ve had a very blessed year fortunately and I think celebrations are in order! Maybe not 7ft worth of tank, but hey ho :D
