Ok thanks, I totally understand. The tetras get 2 inches. But if I was going to go to say a three or four inch . Then I see that would be a problem. I also understand what the lfs owner was saying about buy all the at the same time. You don't take s chance of getting your other contaminated. It's a hard call. High Ammonia, or contamination. I will watch my carefully. And take samples. Before deciding to add.

I am just going to stick with the I have right now. I don't want to over crowd. This is a no win situation. Sorry I screwed up. That's how we learn.

That is the truth. I know I have learned by experience. I am now trying to line out some fish that I have learned are not compatible temperature-wise and I have been doing this for seven years other than when I was a teenager and knew nothing (no google back then, lol).
Be wary of lfs people. If you read enough through this forum, you will find many accounts where folks wind up in really bad situations based on advice from the lfs employee or owner even.
Although you need a bigger tank for the fish you purchased, you are researching and getting your tank cycled. Not keeping them in toxic water with high ammonia or nitrite is a great step in the right direction.
It is a win situation with patience. If you really want the glofish and a tank for each of your children, then stick with what you have right now getting up to the proper schooling and no more than that since they will be crowded. For a clean up crew, I would recommend a couple nerite snails. Be sure you stick to the weekly water change schedule. It is a great thing to share this with your children.
Just keep in mind that unless you upgrade to a larger tank, the lifespan of your fish will be shortened and you may experience stress related illness. Maybe once you guys get this down with these tanks, you can cycle a 30 gallon tank as a family as a learning experience. Great way to expose and teach kids about the nitrogen cycle and properly taking care of pets. Then move your glofish over and the kids get to pick out new fish that are more appropriate for their ten gallons??
It is definitely a constant learning experience for me. I really enjoy it and just strive to correct things ASAP when I learn I do not have the most optimum situation. My peppered cories that I did not know were low temp with a high of 72 degrees have been in higher temps (lowered to about 74 once I learned) because they are in with tank mates that require higher temps. I have been working on rearranging for months. The longer I leave them in that situation, there will be potential for shorter life span and stress-related illness so I understand where you are. We just learn and grow.
I say all that to say don't get discouraged. It is a really fun hobby that can be a great family affair.

Thank u very much. I am just going to stay with the two in each tank I know they school. But they also will have more room. The Zebras are very happy. And the tetras are getting acclimated. I'll keep up on them.

Sorry for being such a novice!!!!!!
Like the title says. I have been researching extensively. And come to the conclusion. That I am going to keep my beautiful glofish. Until they pass. Even though they are two in each tank. I have become attached!!!! I have looked at dimensions of 20 gallon long tanks. And they are just 10 inches longer than my 10 gallon. I feel badly that I made such a novice mistake. The two pair of fish seem happy though. I will post some more pics.

On another note. I have decided. That after research, I can keep my 10 gallon tanks. And when I go to replace my . Hopefully not for several years. I will go with 1 male betta in each tank.

The glofish are suppose to live 3-5 yrs. and that will be a good long time. To research and prepare, and learn. I am pleased with my decision. And hope I don't insult anyone. Here are some pics of my little tetra buddy. He comes to the front of the tank. And greets me already. Can you say happy .
