I'm a 23 year old grandmother!!! (Baby Pictures!)

So... I've been looking everywhere for my new ghost shrimp. I've been REAALLLLYYY searching the tank the past few days. I think he got eaten or he's hiding really well (there ARE a lot of places to hide)...

I opened my tank today to feed some frozen brine shrimp, when what do I see? A baby guppy!! Is this Tiny? (my 2 month old guppy I got from someone else..) Nope, too small! He's so cute!! Then I look around! I see another one!! And a third! I couldn't find anymore... so I was so happy with three guppies! I knew she was pregnant, I kept looking for signs that she was ready to give birth but I didn't see it...I got her and knew that she could be preggo without a male around... They are so little... but big enough that they've probably been hiding out for quite a while... (my guess, a week? maybe even two?!) As I was so excited, I decided, even though they are probably big enough not to be eaten by the other fish.. they are still small enough to be nipped and picked on, so rather than stress them out, I'll put them in the breeder net... If my shrimp is alive, I bet he's had some good baby snacks the past few days...

Then I looked down under a little hiding spot I have and found ONE more!! I couldn't believe it! They were relatively easy to catch. I took them and put them in a bowl until I caught all if them, then put them in the breeder net.

They were hiding on the very top of the colliseum where there is only enough water for them, the other fish can't fit there!! (See pictures) How smart!!

So there are 4.. 1 is really dark and the biggest... he/she is dark gray. Then there are two that are much less gray, and there is one little one who is almost all see-thru, peach-ish, and spotted! I kind of hope the coloring stays but he/she could just be undeveloped. I crushed up some flakes and I'll run out later and get some first-bite for them!

I'M SO EXCITED!! I don't have room for them when they are adults. I'm probably going to have to give them away. :'( I'm overstocked by 5" as it IS!!

lol Done and done!! I put the same pictures I put here for you. (As a proud g-ma, I can't decide which ones I like better!)

I am going to try and track their size by taking a picture of them every Monday... then I'll post them here!

Great idea! (weekly pix) I am away for work every week for 4 days, and I'm always amazed at how they've grown.

lol yeah. I just wish I saw the birth or saw them sooner. I did a pretty extensive cleaning last week, I hope I didn't get any! I don't think I did, I usually watch everything I suck up. lol I'm surprized they are that big at only a week old though!!! SOO cute.

It's going to KILL me to have to give them away later on.......

Oh, Amanda? I'd start going round petstores to find out which one will take them off your hands. If they're anything like mollies, 3 months is about the right time as otherwise they're ready to mate, and you don't want them to mate with each other or with their parents.

We're having a spot of trouble finding fishstores that'd take them off our hands (and even more trouble finding fishstores that'll give us store credit for them). The best deals we've got so far (after driving to a loooot of stores) are:
- Nope, sorry, we don't take from private breeders
- Sure, we'll take them off you against store credit in batches of 100 (later revised to 40)
- Yeah I'll take them off ya, for free, and I'll use 'em as feeders

yeah.. I agree.

I was able to have a PetCo empoyee take some for me (when someone gave me WAY too many for my tank).. but he took them for himself to breed or something.

I will have to do some research.

Wow, I read the title and thought, 'what, how is that possible', then started reading it and found out you're talking about fish. Congrats on the fry.

Well that's way better. That way, you know he'll take good care of them: it's not like they'll each go to random people.
