Hiro wasn't been feeling well these past few days and I've been trying to find a vet that'd work with us as we don't qualify for CareCredit. I couldn't find a vet in time. He passed away this morning. I've posted a photo of him once or twice in "Oh to be a cat" so I thought I'd let everyone here know about his passing.
In March of 2013 a cat had followed me home. He wasn't the first to do this, and he wasn't the last either. I tried ignoring him, as apartment complex rules state only 1 pet per apartment and we already had Zeke. I remember seeing a neighbor swinging her lanyard full of keychains at him when I decided to let him into the apartment. Eventually we had to put him back outside, where the landlady at the time took him to get him neutered. She adopted him out to someone else in the building, but that person decided they didn't want him and chased him out. We asked the landlady if we could have him, regardless of already having a cat. She decided she'd let us, knowing we'd take good care of him. That was how we ended up with our little hero.
I named him Hiroshi, Hiro for short. 3 years old according to the vets when we first adopted him, so he'd be about 10-11 now. Hard to believe it's been 8 years since he followed me home.
He was sweet, loving, and an attention seeker. He loved people. He loved tummy rubs. He loved catnip bubbles and these weird feather/tassle balls you can get at walmart for a dollar. He was always up your butt when you went into the kitchen. Always pounced on Zeke whenever he could. He was nice to Kuromi when she followed me home. The two would often play together while Zeke watched from his safety zone. He liked knocking his head against mine. He had a hard head.
I've been crying all morning, looking into pet crematoriums and such. I think the worst part is trying to find a ride to the one we like best. Not being able to drive sucks. Friends have been kind enough to send some money to help with expenses. I'm hoping to get enough pulled together to have the crematorium come get him instead. It'd be a bit more expensive, but since we don't have anyone to take us, it's really our only choice.
