Ideal Pond?

HI fishlore! This is my first post, but I've been following this forum for a while!
Anyway I have a 110 pond/watering trough with 10 common/comet goldfish that I got as "feeder goldfish" and 1, maybe 2 crayfish.
My question is, is there too many fish in there? I'm pretty sure they're happy because when I do the monthly WC they look pretty happy....

My pond is pretty boring, it's just 110 gal. Watering trough with a board over it and two brick houses to hide in. I'm planning to put in some plants soon though.

Does anyone know if my pond is good for my goldfish?

First of all you have too many common goldfish get to 12+ inches. You can only do 4. When they are young they are small so you think they are fine. But in about 2 years they will get to about 9 inches. Dadio

In 2 years I think I will get a bigger pond….. But thanks anyway
I do monthly water changes, and I don't have a pond filter…. so is this ok? For now?

If you don't have a pond filter I really suggest bringing the goldfish to 6 then. 10 is just too much! Anders247

Definetly. Even with a pond filter you shouldn't do anything above 6!

I agree, 10 is too many.

Yes, you need less fish & some sort of filtration - if only to oxygenate things a bit (if you have green water, that will take care of your nitrates, but if the algae dies off, you'll need the filter then). I had 5 feeder types in a 110 stock tank pond for a couple of years with just water changes, but had to put them in something with a filter at that point, as they were having some sort of gas exchange issues, possibly due to their increasing size in that set up (bubbles in their fins - went away with a filter). Figure on at least 20 gal per fish, & an inexpensive sponge filter would be enough to get some circulation & the bubbles would agitate the surface a bit.

Yeah as mentioned above one of the best and cheapest filter is getting the large sponge filters! It will help oxygenate your tank and provide biological filtration in order to help to break down the waste.

Ok I'll try to get a large sponge filter, and I would be glad if the algae died off! lol, I can't even see through the water!

It would actually be bad if the algae died off especially iff all of them or a whole bunch died at once. When all those algae die they start decomposing causing a whole bunch of water issue. Especially since you don't have a mechanical filter it will be hard. I also suggest getting 2 sponge filters. You can probably by them online at a pond store or something. Pet stores definitely don't sell them unless you go to a fish store which might have a pond section.

Good day. With a 110 gallon I would not have more than 6 and even that is pushing the limit. By the time you've added decor such as plants, rocks or other. The volume of livable space can drop 10 to 30%. So 4 IMO would be max. Comets, goldfish and koi are dumping machines and without good filtration you will end up with many problems. Algae being just one of them and probably a haven for bugs as at the moment you have no filtration or agitation. I suggest a filtration system that can turnover the pond at least 2 times an hour with four comets. Beyond this it requires even more.

Thanks for all the replies! I'll try to lower the number of goldfish. And get a filter. I don't have very many decorations either.
