Idea for silent (quiet) fish room - basement air pump

I have 8 tanks in the fish room. Most tanks (6 out of 8) have an air pump. So the room hums.

When we unplug all of the air pumps, the room is quiet and peaceful. We like it.

I am contemplating having a single air pump in the basement, and an air line run to the fish room and split 6 ways.

What do you think? Any advice is appreciated.

I have the hitop dual outlet air pump and it is sooooo silent! The hygger air pump is also very very quite. here are the links. You can use a T or Y connector to run more air for less money. Also, the python airline tubing is excellent.

Thank you kindly. Those are new to me. I ordered a set of the HITOPS. We'll see how they work to quiet the room down. Very reasonably priced too.

You are very welcome. Agreed, the pumps are very affordable.

Up to 2 litres of air per minute is the maximum needed per filter/device .

One pump in the basement is going to be much quieter. This Nitto Kohki brand is not the cheapest but they are very quiet. Possibly you can buy them cheaper somewhere else?

This is great. If the HITOPS don't do the job I will look into this next. Thank you kindly.

I like the pump in the basement idea. I thought about that too. Mine are pretty quiet and still make noise when it is dead silent.

OK, I have three HITOPS installed in the fish room. The pumps are silent. I have as much or more air moving as before but the hum is gone.

So now I hear the motors on the filters only. There is one old Marineland HOT Magnum that hums the loudest and all of the Aquaclear filters are very quiet. But the room is very pleasant now!

I think even if I were to move the air pumps to the basement the sound level would be the same because of the filter motors anyway.

Anybody want some big old loud air pumps!

BTW those HITOPS are great, and the little package that they come with has everything you need. Air line, check valves, air stones, valves, stoppers for plugging one leg. This is a great air pump package!

Your welcome! Yay! I am glad that I helped you have your fish room's noise level less. Hope they stay silent. Also, for those noisy air pumps....good luck selling them, lol! My best regards, BettasAreSuperior .

As a person running almost all my tanks on air filtration I know what happens when a pump stops at night on a Sunday.
You need a spare. Or in your case more than one spare. Keep those old pumps handy.

Are you bleeding off any air? Do you understand the concept and the reasoning behind it ?

No.

I tried a bleeder valve, and the pump gets much louder. The pump seems to be quietest with all the air coming out of the air stone only, and adjusting the flow using the knob on the pump. We really like the quiet room now. No Hmmmmmmm, just gentle splash of water. I set the knob as high as I can go and not hear the pump.

The only time any of my air pumps bother me is the 3 on my betta rack in the bedroom when i am trying to sleep. The fan typically drowns them out though. Still planning on getting a pump with 4 outlets or so to replace the 3 of them and then i have backups as well. Also i like the idea of cutting out a couple of the power cords associated with the rack.
