I have a 55 gallon tank with a bunch of baby guppies 2 bolivians and two Otocinclous. I know the stocking is terrible. I also have a 20 gallon long with one African dwarf frog, one male German blue ram, 7 neon tetra, 4 ghost shrimp about a million little pond snails?, And 5 Nerite snails. Again I realize the stocking on this is also terrible. The two bolivians have got to stay and I would like to keep the blue Ram as well my kid cannot part with the Frog and the otos are the last of 8 that didn't make the move . Any ideas on what we could do to consolidate into one tank I've read that the frogs cannot be deeper than 15 in or it becomes difficult for them to reach the surface any help or advice I'm open for anything thank you

I know nothing about frogs but heard they can get outcompeted for food in a community tank.... in terms of the 55 being too deep, maybe creating a perch or ledge and suction cupping it halfway down the tank height? That way your frog has some place to hide/rest closer to surface?

As for the rest of your fish, you’re aware of your stocking issues which aren’t bad ( and we can discuss if you want) but the most glaring problem is the temperature incompatibility your blue ram has with the rest. If you rehomed him, the rest have plenty of temperature overlap so in that sense you’ll be okay.

Why not keep the guppies and the shrimp and snails in the 20 gallon and Put the rest in the 55 with plenty of hiding places

The main issue lies with the 20g's stock. As Lchi87 mentioned, GBRs require much warmer temperatures than the neons and keeping an ADF in a community tank isn't a great idea as they have poor eyesight and often miss out at feeding time - spot feeding a single ADF in a 55 gallon would only end up in more unnecessary waste.
Combining the inhabitants of both tanks into the 55 gallon would also require rehoming/ removing the otos and, Imo, the bolivian rams too, as they both require cooler temperatures than the GBR should handle.

There really isn't much of a choice but to rehome the GBR or build a separate stock around it in the 20g.

The tetras will tolerate warmer temperatures without any trouble.

Actually not. They'll likely suffer an increased susceptibility to disease and a shorter lifespan at higher temps.

my tetras are in a tank set at 80 and are literally the only fish who have not gotten any disease.

That doesn't mean they won't, and it doesn't mean they won't suffer from a shorter lifespan. Sounds like you have issues with your tank if your other fish are diseased, and we can talk about it on your own thread or through PM, if you're interested.

The Adf should be fine in the 55 gal.
I suggest using live plants And adding drift wood. Beef heart to feed the frog has cured feeding issues for myself.

Use the 20 for guppy's and tetras place all the others together in the 55.
The guppies will overload the aquarium I think. They are endless breeders imo.

You could place the neons in warmer water. Over time they will die off and you can boost/replace them with cardinal tetras. Not the best way to care for them however.

That's my opinion; I hope it helps you.

Thank you for all the ideas. The baby guppies can go to our convict and if she doesn't take them I have a buddy who will. So what would be good to go with the Bolivians because I think that's what it's going to come down to. And the two otos I have appear to be healthy so should I get more once I rehome everything else or just wait? I love my fish but I've gotten overwhelmed

So tbh the Bolivians and otos can stay? And if I put that frog in a ten gallon with a preset 78° heater what would I use to filter it? Then re-home the rest besides the snails? Or could they go into the 10 with the frog?

Which tank are you trying to get rid of? You could keep the guppies, Bolivians, otos, neons, and snails in the 55 gal, and move the frog and the shrimp to the 10 gal? And then just rehome the German blue ram.

The 20 gallon. It was originally a snake tank. But That sounds good to me. Could I put one or two snails with the adf?
