stock in my 60 gal
7 tiger barbs (was 10)
1 rainbow shark
1 bn pleco
1 electric blue acara
1 blood parrot
4 juvenile kuhlI loaches who I never see
Water perimeters are perfect; ammo 0- nitrite 0-nitrate 10 to 20, pH is 6.8

Having an ich outbreak that I believe came in with the tiger barbs
Have raised the temp to 87
I had salt in there (1 tsp for every 5 gal) and the shark was showing some increased stress so I did a 75% pwc. Since then the rainbow shark is very lethargic but does not show any outwardly signs of ich. But being scaleless do they show signs or are their gills only attacked?
Did a gravel vac with 30% pwc yest and now it’s worse.
Almost all the fish have spots now when it was just a few on the barbs at first. I know it is supposed to get worse before better but should I add salt again or should I go get medicine instead?

I plan to buy a 10 gal kit to use as qt from now on.... I am so stressed about this I am going to end up with ich!!!

Raise the temp another degree or two. I like to shoot for 88F. It takes a few days before you notice the ich going away. What the heat does is speed their life cycle then they die off, so it is possible to see more ich spots before it goes away. Keep up with the water changes and if you don't already, add an air stone or two. The extra warm water decreases oxygen levels so added surface agitation is needed. Perhaps this is why the shark isn't doing so hot.

Do not add the salt, I have treated ich several times w/o salt and only heat+gravel vacs. Salt isn't good for the loaches, pleco, nor the shark, they do not handle it well at all.

I have an 18 I’m bubble wand, a circle air stone and a a foam bio filter all bubbling as well as the hob filter.

So it’s normal for me to see more spots on almost all my fish now? Should I do daily vacs?

And at is 88 degrees safe for all of them?

Sounds like plenty of surface motion so there should be plenty of oxygen. Yes 88F should be fine for a short time, I've treated loaches, blood parrots, plecos, corydoras, and bettas with the heat treatment and they all survived and are doing well to this day.

Yes it is normal in my experience to see more spots for the first couple of days. Give it a couple more days and if you do not see the spots going away then you should think about doing meds. Also, it wouldn't hurt to do daily vacs.

I just needed some one to reassure me that I was doing the right thing with no salt. Thank you
