Ich treatment killing inverts?

Hey guys and girls! I was thinking about adding some inverts to my 75 gallon, when my father rained on my parade. He said that a lot of fish medications will kill most shrimp and snails. Is this true? I'd like to believe him but I'd also like to have some inverts in my tank

Most problems can be tteated by more then 1 med so if one is bad for shrimp you can treat with another. Ive never had problem with my shrimp.and i.know a lot of others don't have any.either

Do you have a spare tank to use as evacuation or hospital tank?

Copper based meds will kill them. But shrimp can handle most other fish meds I've used melafix, pimafix, levamisole and prazipro.

Ime experience nitrite spikes were a bigger issue. If your tank isn't fully cycled they are pretty sensitive to nitrite poisoning.

Thank you, and my tank is about 12 years old now, so nitrogen and ammonia are not a problem

A lot of the medications should state warnings for use with inverts.

Ime nerites snails are the most sensitive. Killed a few using melafix and pimafix. Shrimp and mystery snails were fine. Oops

Yeah, generally nerites will be harmed before anything else. For ich you can treat with heat instead of meds. There's a few workarounds. I'd plug another forum for you but I doubt that would be in good taste here.

Yes, many meds are dangerous to inverts. There are other treatments available. Personally, I'd say if you want to do the inverts, just make sure you have a separate tank available you can use for QT in the event that you need to medicate. Then you can either move over the sick fish, or you can move over the inverts during the time you are medicating.
