Ich Treatment advice

Spudsssy

Hi all,

It’s been many years since I’ve had to treat ICH. I would like to confirm I am doing this correctly as there are many methods online.

I’ve noticed 1-3 spots on some fish so its early stages.

Tank 90L
15 galaxy rasbora
7 otto catfish
1 Betta
Twig catfish
Cherry shrimp

I don't want to increase to 30 as twig catfish don’t like warm temps. I have airstone running in tank.

Day 1 Two 50% water changes (morning and evening and cleaned sand). Increased temperature to 28 degrees.
Day 2 added 200g aquarium salt to 90L aquarium
Day 4 decrease temp to 26 degrees
Day 8+9 50% Water change and substrate clean for both days

I’m currently on day 3
Today’s readings
Ammonia 0
Nitrite 0
Nitrate 0
PH 7.8

Is the level of salt ok to leave for 8 days?
Is this too much salt for a planted tank over 8 days?

If problem persists after 8 days ill repeat treatment (If im doing it correctly).

Any advice would be great!

Thanks
Would 1 tablespoon per 5 gallon be a good dose. So for 90L it would be 100g. Should I do 50% water change to reduce salt level? The instructions on aquarium salt I bought make no sense for treating ICH.

I think you are doing good..
I prefer 1 tablespoon salt per 10 gallons though

I'll keep an eye on fish and I'll reduce salt levels if they show any signs of stress. Thanks

All signs of Ich were gone after 4 days... Iv now started daily water changes and gravel vacs to reduce salt levels.

I used a little bit too much salt for planted tank, but I think plants should bounce back. I would probably use 0.5gram salt per litre next time (45gram in 90L tank).

Moral of the story is you should quarantine new fish!!!!
