I was looking at my tank and noticed some white spots on some of my celestial pearl danios fins and body, im pretty sure its ich. attached is a picture and if anyone has any advice please let me know. i read about raising the temperature in the tank but I know CPD's like it cooler so its set to about 73 degrees. I also added 2 tablespoons of aquarium salt into the 29 gallon tank. I also checked all my water parameters and they all came back perfect.
Thank you
PS: i got them less than 2 weeks ago so there is a chance one of them had it before

Hi! I can’t see the spots very well, but if they’re there then it’s probably ich. Raising the temps to 73 won’t be very effective, it generally has to be around 80-86 degrees to work. Aquarium salt is a good start but if you notice the ich isn’t improving or is getting worse I would start using a medication. I recently used API Ick Guard to clear it in my tank, I have a 55 gal and I only used 1-2 tabs everyday for 4 days with a 25% water change in between each dose and it cleared it right up. I didn’t follow the directions on the box, last time I did it overdosed and killed my fish so just start with 1 tablet and see how it goes!

Where do you live greenpepper?
Or I really only need to know if you live in Australia.
Australian ich lives in a hot climate so raising the temperature does nothing to our strain.

Should you choose to use an ich medication with malachite green in it I can help you kill the parasites in a few hours. If you go the hot water and salt I think someone else will help?

Thank you for the advice and fast response I will definitely have to try this as I think it has already spread to a bunch of my CPDs

Thank you so much for the fast response I will definitely try the Ick Guard because I think I am seeing it spread to all my fish.
You’re welcome! Just make sure to remove the carbon filter if you use one and leave a little more room at the top of aquarium so there’s more aeration because medications tend to lower the oxygen in the tank. Good luck!

Yes the parasites are swimming in the tank. That is normal. All fish are in contact with the parasites. Some may have a different outcome?

Follow the instructions. Wash your hands.

Often a second or third dose is recommended on the instructions. Often water changes are required.

An air stone is suggested because the medication lowers the oxygen available.
Lowering the water level will work as blondii suggests if you have a hang on back filter?
