Ich medicine recommendation please.

I have a platy and guppy exhibiting signs of ich. I am a newbie and did not quarantine a BN albino pleco and it’s body and fins were riddled with round yellow granules. I purchased him on Saturday and my other 2 fishes started scratching on the plants and gravel last night. I also noticed 2 round balls on the platys tail this am. My husband went to pet store and told him he needs medicine for ich and they gave him Pimex which I’d for bacteria.

I also purchased a pepper Cory on Saturday and he is not itching like the other 2. What medicine would be safe for all of them? Since I don’t think the Cory can take the heat method. Thanks. I will get it tomorrow. Hopefully I’m not too late to save the little guys.

Any kind of anti-fungal medication will do but I’ve had great success with Ich-x. So long as the meds contain methalyne blue or malachite green should do the trick. I know a temp increase isn’t ideal for most corys; however a gradual increase for a short period should be alright.

HikarI Ich-X and Kordon Rid Ich are popular choices. I keep Ich-X on hand. I'd start with a half dose and ramp up due to the scaleless fish.

I've also had good luck with Ich-X.

Rid ich plus is what I used. I didn't do a half dose like others say. I added the proper amount for my tank at once and it's a lot of water changes at that point. Dose, 30% dose, 30%. Until you see no signs of inch for 3 days. Alot of work But very beatable

I don't know. Fish stores might carry it. I got it from Amazon. I think it was $5 last time I looked.

I can’t find ich x in canada I will try rid x plus. My platy had 2 spots yesterday now she has a bunch on her tail. Looks so different than the ich that was on the pleco I bought pleco Saturday. The ich symptoms on platy started yesterday. I returned the pleco......, I hope he gets treatment since I mentioned it to pet store worker. My platy ate most of those balls off him. Then 2 days later there were more. Here is pic of pleco with yellow granules.

Good luck. I hope things improve. I know it's a challenge getting meds in Canada.

When things are sorted out it might be good to review your stocking and reevaluate what you want in the tank. Platys are poop machines, and with a guppy, a cory, and a BN pleco that's a mix that doesn't work in a 10g. The bioload is too high so water parameters will suffer, cories should be in groups of 6+, and plecos need a much bigger tank.

I am very close to the border and shop in usa all the time. Today they closed non essential travel. I wouldn’t of travelled anyways I’m trying to be responsible and follow the covid guidelines.

I returned the pleco to the store because in a previous thread I was told the exact same things about the Corey and the Pleco.

We kept the Cory because my children really think he’s so cute so we were holding onto him and deciding to get another tank and get more Coreys. We will return him to the pet store if we decide not to get another tank.

I feel like he’s now in the tank with the Ich and should treat him also. I’m feeling bad that I returned the Pleco and didn’t treat him. I did tell the guy at the store I saw a little round balls on him so hopefully they will treat him. I just wanted him out of there cause I knew he was the one that started this whole thing plus all those grains were freaking me out.

Even when I return the Pleco he asked me why? I told him he’s not a right fit for my tank I have a 10 gallon. And then he showed me with his fingers he’ll only get this big showing like 3 inches. Then I told him there were round dots on him that were there when we bought it.

I know it’s up for me to do research but I feel like the pet stores are steering people the wrong way. I was hands off on this whole aquarium thing because I did not want it. Now Ive probably Spent more time worrying and researching about fish for the last week. Didn’t realize it was all sobcomplicated to get a good tank up and running. At this point feels like a lot of work and hassle but I’m committed to keeping the fish healthy and alive.

Since we are dealing with cycling the tank and ammonia issues we are going to go with the hot water method. Hopefully that works out.

It's really tough, especially for new fishkeepers who are suddenly dealing with stocking problems and sick fish, and it gets expensive trying to fix things and medicate. You should be able to trust advice from people selling you fish but you can't. I wanted to bail myself with my first tank. But it does get MUCH easier and cheaper once everything's settled. You might surprise yourself in a year when you look at your tanks and find yourself wondering where you can fit another.

Yes my husband and I jokingly said we keep spending $50 every day at the pet store. Reminds us of the time we finished off our basement and we spent all our money and time at Lowe’s.

if these fish don’t make it we will start again and will do it the right way this time cycling the tank without fish. More research on fish types what they require as a habitat and how much they excrete. We just walked into the pet store and they kind of told us a little bit about the fish and went from there. At least when went To purchase the first fish she recommended the Platy and guppy due to size of tank.

also I don’t really want to deal with fish having babies. I will feel bad if they have babies and all the other fish are eating them. So we were trying to buy different fish. But now I wonder if they’re lonely and want their own species. I really like the guppy he is so friendly and swims around the Plaidy and tries to be friends with her so bad he’s so cute I hope I don’t lose him through this. Even now when she goes down closer to the gravel and sits he goes right there with her and sits by her.

It also bothers me when fish constantly chase other fish and bully them or are aggressive. I was really trying to avoid that happening in the tank because that is not enjoyable to watch. It was OK when it was just the Plaidy and the guppy the Plaidy would get a little aggressive after feeding and chase the guppy away but that was it. Then my kids wanted to add more fish to watch and have it be more exciting. So here we are now......

That's sweet! I'd like to think they're buddies.

I avoided mixing genders of livebearers for years not wanting to deal with the fry too. Honestly, I was less worried about them getting eaten than having to deal with 200 of them who didn't get eaten. You can avoid it by getting males only. They're usually the colorful ones anyway.

I’m doing the water temp rise so I’m checking on the fish and I noticed I have one little baby in here. Do platies only have one fish?I’d like to keep this little fish but I don’t know how to save him I saw the guppy go after him but he swam away fast and is now hiding

What could it be then? My platy ate a bunch of the grains off him and 2 days later they were all back on the pleco and more of them. I know they are not white like ich.

My platand guppy also got ich 2-3 days after he was introduced.
I know they may have had it before but it just seems coincidental. But I am new to fish keeping and have no experience.

also the Cory died in the night. Yesterday I saw a white patch hanging of him and he had a red spot. The platy and guppy I had a little
Over a month. The Cory we bought last Saturday.
so now I’m just down to the guppy and the platys fry.
