I woke up to find this... and not eating

My little Kio started his first bubble nest since being in his new home! I got him two days ago, and he is so much more colorful than when I first got him.

The only thing that worries me is he hasn't eaten anything. I'm giving him the aqueon betta pellets. Should I switch to something else? When I give him a pellet, he looks at it like he's hungry, but it also looks like he's scared of it/not interested. He stares at it for about 5 seconds and then swims away. The pellet then sinks to the bottom and I have to get a net (which he always flares at) to scoop it out of the tank.

Other than that he seems really happy.

What should I do?

Try a turkey baster to remove the uneaten food. A little less stressful for the fish.

As for him not eating, that's not that uncommon. They can go up to 2 weeks with out eating. You can try soaking his pellets in garlic to see if you can entice him or try bloodworms. If he keeps refusing after 2 weeks then I would worry.

Since he made a bubble nest, he is feeling a bit more secured in his tank. It shouldn't be long for him to become a little pig and always beg for food when you get near the tank.

if you have any flakes around you could put 1 in at next feeding and see if he shows any interest in that...I had a betta who wouldn't eat pellets and would just check it out for a second like yours did...he ate flakes right away with no problem. but if you don't have any, I'd give it a week until you get some, but hopefully he's eating pellets by then

Thank you

awh well I would try the garlic as suggested above, and I agree that you shouldn't need to worry until about 2 weeks have gone by and he hasn't eaten

Maybe check with the store where you got him and see what they usually use? Mine has been a pig since day one, but I think it helped that what I was feeding was very similar to what he had been getting in the store. Since I had picked him up before the fish were fed for the day, I even gave him one pellet when he was still acclimating, which he happily devoured.
