I think we have found The One

I posted before about my new betta, Sigmund, not adjusting well to a new 5 gallon tank.
After much discussion we finally decided to return the original 5 gallon we purchased for him. My plan was to get a 3 gallon since we thought his problem was that he just wasn’t used to such a big space. We came to this conclusion after I put him in a small critter keeper and he magically started acting just fine.
Well while I was shopping for the perfect three gallon I found this tank. It’s a 5 gallon but it’s shaped like a square instead of a rectangle giving the illusion that it is a little smaller and cozier. It’s a win win. Sigmund is happy and not hiding and floating on his side. I am happy because I don’t feel guilty having him in a tiny tank.
The tank is a Top Fin 5 Gallon Escape.
My thoughts on it so far are:
It is not perfect. I can see it being a pain to clean.
While the “tower” feature thing is kind of neat, I think it’s a waste. Sigmund may surprise me but I doubt he’ll be swimming up there to survey his kingdom. Plus the “hose” thing is attached to it with no way to remove it. It is clumsy and cumbersome and just in the way. It’s kind of hard to hide it.
The flow from the filter is perfect for a betta, especially a sensitive one.
I do like the look of it. I do think there are better quality cube shaped tanks out there.
I think the best kind of tanks are the ones your fish are happy in and this seems to fit that bill.

I always saw these tanks on the shelf when I worked at PetSmart and thought they looked cool. I've just had too many cheap AIO kits fail on me, so I typically avoid them for myself.

Cool tank, though! I'm glad you like it so far.

I wouldn’t call it my favorite tank ever but it’s okay.
It’s aesthetically pleasing and is keeping Sigmund happy.
I am REALLY glad Sigmund is okay. I was really worried because when I first moved him out of the original tank he did not look good at all.

Well, happy fish, that should be the goal!

I usually stay away from those tanks just because the dimensions can make it hard to repurpose for something else later on if i should choose to do so. But, they definitely have their place/uses!

I think it might make a cute aqua garden with some shrimp or snails. Other than that or a betta I agree, it could be difficult to repurpose.

He is actually up in the “tower”. Never thought he’d do that. He is a completely different fish! I am so glad he is happier.

I am not hating the tank. Sigmund is so much happier in it. I don’t know what was wrong with the other tank. I don’t know it is was the shape of it, the lighting, if the filter was too strong (even though I had on low and buffered it). It’s a mystery.
He is doing GREAT in this tank so that makes it worth it.
I have a feeling it’s going to be a pain to clean and do water changes on but we will see. It will be worth it if he stays this happy.

He really is! The change in him has been amazing.

I thought the tank was going to be a pain to test water, use the turkey baster to clean out poop/uneaten food, do water changes, etc because of the lid. Honestly, it’s not that bad.
