I Think Nelson Threw Up! Is it Even Possible for Fish to Throw Up???

I noticed that my betta, Nelson was holding his mouth open like a big yawn. Only he held his mouth open much longer than a yawn. Then he sort of stuck his gills out a few times. He wasn't flaring; he didn't move his gills completely out and he didn't use his fins. After he did this a few times, he threw up/spat something out that looked like a piece of chewed up food. This was probably at least two hours after I fed him his usual three pellet breakfast. This was the first time I've noticed him do this. Should I be concerned?

Oddly enough, I think I've heard about that on the forum before.
As long as he's acting ok, I don't think you need to be concerned. Just keep an eye one him.
Like you don't already right? lol

My first betta did that except it came out her gills, scared me to death, but she was fine. )

Sometimes I think he owns me instead of the other way around, and it is my job to keep him company and tell him how handsome he is!
My brother has a cory cat that sometimes does the weird food out of gills thing too.

Of course, every betta knows this is true!

I think bettas are like cats, except better. What is your avatar pic, cat or fish? Or maybe that ridiculous PETA thing, what is it called . . . Sea Kitten???

It is a pretty common trick that bettas sometimes do, its like having their dinner twice!
The meal that keeps on giving! LOL

It's my cat. He decided he was going to help me set up a 10 gallon tank.
He's like "I'm ready, where's my dinner.. errrr, I mean your new pet fish. Meow" lol

He didn't eat the food after he spat it out though.
